“You did a great job. Thanks.”

Everyone was congratulating me.

“You’re amazing, Youna. Why didn’t they pick you to come with all the other students for the gathering?” The girl tilted her head at me.

Well, that’s because I’m not a student.

It was time for me and Shia to tell them the truth.

“Wow, really? So you’re not actually a student of the capital academy, then?”

“Why don’t you just enroll?”

“But if you’re not a student, then what does that mean for the results?”

“I’m still happy we won, either way.”

As everyone was talking, the teacher came by.

“This is a magic exchange gathering. We’re here to show each other our skills and improve. Ranking your performances is important, but don’t forget what matters most of all.”

“So what about the match?”

“Since we won, the match will be declared a tie.”

“A tie?”

“Yes, because Youna isn’t a student from the capital. Without her, you wouldn’t have won, so the match is a draw.”

“You’re right. We would have lost without Youna.”

I didn’t know if declaring this a draw was exactly fair, but it seemed better than saying the capital had won. Not to mention that chalking the match up as a loss even though we’d won would have been embarrassing for both schools. A draw seemed like the most acceptable compromise.

“Let’s finish this up later and clear the field for now. The boys need to have their match next. Please be sure to cheer them on to keep them motivated!”

After the teachers said their piece, we headed off the field to cheer the boys on.
